This is your invitation to get chalk on your hands by participating in the Seminole Teach-In on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. This is your opportunity to come into the Seminole County schools and get a taste of teaching!
American Education Week, November 15-21, 2009, is an annual national celebration of public education. The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools, along with sponsors Orlando Sentinel and Bank of America, is proud to invite all Central Floridians to commemorate and celebrate this special week by taking part in Teach-In 2009. Parents, business leaders, and community members can enhance learning by going into a classroom for an hour or for the whole school day. You can read a book, tutor a student, talk about your career, your travels, your hobby, your life experiences, etc.
We are inviting you to join other outstanding personalities in the classroom. Can we count on you to give one hour or more of your time for public education on Tuesday, November 17, 2009? The goal is to have guest teachers in as many classrooms as possible on that day.
Please join us in the Seminole Teach-In 2009 on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 and show your commitment to public education! Complete and return the Volunteer Preference Form. Teach-In takes place during American Education Week—an annual national celebration of public education that was first observed in 1921 to inform the public of the accomplishments and needs of public schools and to secure the public’s cooperation and support to meet those needs.
Teach-In’s theme is Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility. Your commitment to "teach for a day" underscores the critical role communities play in public education. Teach-In started in 1991 and offers parents, business people and community members the opportunity to enhance learning by going into classrooms as school volunteers for an hour—or a day. You play a vital role in the success of this event. Whether you read a book aloud, talk about your career or tell students what it is like to travel in another country, the time you spend with young people makes education better. Thanks to you, Teach-In will be a CLASS ACT!
