Winter Break Job Shadow Program

The Seminole State College Career Development Center is facilitating a Winter Break Job Shadow Program during the week of December 15 - 19, 2014. The purpose of the Program is to give students an opportunity to explore specific career fields and industries while networking with local employers. We are currently in the process of recruiting companies within the Central Florida community to serve as host employers to interested students.

As a host employer you would be responsible for creating an externship experience that would give students a good overview of your profession. This may be accomplished by having students perform actual tasks, attend staff meetings, shadow staff members, etc. Although students will not receive academic credit or payment for their participation in the program, they are encouraged to commit between eight to forty hours to their job shadow experience.

Below are some suggestions for a successful job shadow program:

  • Clear and detailed description of experience(s)
  • Structured job shadowing experience with an agenda aids in realistic expectations
  • Explanation of activities and industry lingo in experience description

Participation as a host employer will give you the opportunity to build professional relationships with current SSC students prior to graduation. Furthermore, you will gain access to future interns and employees. The Job Shadow Program is open to all students attending Seminole State College of Florida. Therefore, the matching pool may include freshmen with little or no work experience that are eager to explore various career fields, to nontraditional students with a wealth of experience.

Your organization's participation would greatly assist us in our efforts to educate students about the importance of life-long career development and planning while identifying strong candidates for experiential or professional employment opportunities.

Celebrate Sanford Registration

Type of Organization:   For-Profit    Non-Profit (please attach copy of Tax Exempt Form)

Booth Fee: 10 x 10 space $75, plus sales tax $4.50                10 x 20 space $130, plus sales tax $7.80  

Electricity will be provided for an additional fee and there are a limited number of spaces. Vendor must supply their own tent, tables and chairs. Each business, whether for-profit or non-profit, will be reviewed to determine suitability for participation in the event.  A tent is required for participation and must have the proper weighting for safety and be in good condition with no holes, tears or patches.  White tents are preferred but not mandatory.

Electricity required:    No    Yes   If yes, 110 only (additional $50).  Please list each appliance that will be used, its purpose and the number of amps required for its operation on a separate piece of paper and include with payment. Availability of electricity is limited and on a first come basis.

No vendor will be allowed to set up without business license and hold harmless on file before the event. 

  NO REFUNDS will be made for vendor’s failure to comply.

The Seminole Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) announces the 8th Annual Hoooowl for the Arts on Saturday, October 25th, 6:00-10:00PM at Seminole Harley Davidson, 620 Hickman Circle in Sanford.


Dine under the stars and dance the night away to the music of Bob Frier and his band, Simulcast.  Mix and mingle with artists, leaders in business and education and local elected officials. Tickets include a candlelight buffet dinner catered by Bubbalou’s Bodacious Barbecue, non-alcoholic beverages and table seating. Cash bar, raffles and door prizes.


Don’t miss our signature event, a silent auction of unique one-of-a-kind art masks, and other artwork, as well as unbelievable vacation packages, art offerings and specialty services.

Bright House Regional Business Awards

Bright House Business Services has begun advertising their Regional Business Awards in the last couple of weeks.  If you belong to a local Chamber of Commerce, the application fee is waived.  If you are a startup business, just connect with the National Entrepreneur Center and your fee will be waived.

The exhibit season opens with the still-life oil paintings of Lee Andrew Bianco.  Mr. Bianco studied painting at the Paier College of Art, in Connecticut, has taught at Coral Springs Museum of Art, and was the owner of “Studio Bianco,” a gallery and custom framing ‘emporium’ in Brookline, MA.  He has participated in several group exhibits nationally and is a member of The Copley Society; a renowned invitational only Boston artists guild and gallery.  



Sanford Shuttle Service

Beginning Monday, August 11, thanks to the efforts of the City of Sanford and the Sanford (Community Redevelopment Agency) CRA there will be free round-trip shuttle service every 20 minutes from the Sanford SunRail Station into Historic Downtown Sanford. 

The shuttle service will be available between the hours of 10:00am until 3:00pm coinciding with SunRail's Sanford station schedule. The drop-off and pick-up location in Downtown Sanford will be in front of the Historic Sanford Welcome Center at 230 E. First St.
