Press Release
February 23, 2016

SANFORD, FL – The City of Sanford, Florida has entered into an agreement with Torre Companies for the development of a 5.35 acres parcel of City owned property in the historic Lake Monroe Waterfront Downtown Sanford Community Redevelopment Area.  This redevelopment project derives from Sanford’s long-term vision and Strategic Plan to unify their distinctive cultural corridor and historic downtown with the Lake Monroe waterfront, promote the City’s distinct culture, business hub, and extensive transportation network, as well as, revitalize its disadvantaged communities.   Located in the Central Florida region, Sanford wants to showcase their City as a vibrant and safe City in which people choose to live, work, raise a family, attend school, vacation and retire.

The Torre, Heisenbottle, Dover & Kohl Development Team has begun formulating a development program for a proposed mixed-used project including residential, office, retail, restaurants and hospitality components.  Over the next several months, the team will work together to conduct design and feasibility studies and market analysis, as well as, facilitate a community planning and design charrette with City residents and representatives of the City of Sanford to gather their input for the vision of the sites.  It is projected that the preliminary redevelopment plan will be presented to the City Commission by August 2016.

“We are enthusiastic and confident about our new public-private partnership with The Torre, Heisenbottle, Dover & Kohl Development Team”, said Mayor Jeff Triplett.  The City of Sanford is ripe for revitalization. Blending Sanford’s great diversity and historic elements while meeting the needs of future economic growth, this waterfront development project will take Sanford to the next level, leaving a legacy for all Sanford’s proud residents and visitors to enjoy.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to be involved with Sanford’s revitalization of the historic downtown area”, says Venny Torre, the prime developer and one of the principal partners of the project.  He went on to say that “the City of Sanford has the right team on their side for this all too important development and redevelopment objective.  We have the vision, experience, attitude, backing and most of all the commitment to get the job done well.”

Judy Sarullo of Pet Rescue by Judy Receives 2016 Humanitarian of the Year Award from The Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce

SANFORD, Fla. (February 23, 2016) – The Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce honored Judy Sarullo of Pet Rescue by Judy as its 2016 Humanitarian of the Year.

Each year, the Chamber honors one remarkable individual in recognition of outstanding service and involvement within the community. Sarullo was chosen not only for her commitment to providing proper shelter and care to local animals in need, but also for her preventative efforts in minimizing overpopulation of unwanted pets and the many other services that Pet Rescue By Judy provides.

For nearly 25 years, Sarullo has dedicated her life, working without vacations and salary, to rescuing and finding safe housing for Central Florida’s cats and dogs in need. What began as a simple effort to take in a handful of homeless pets and bring them to small local events for adoption, rapidly grew into what is now a 9,000-square-foot facility in Sanford, Fla., featuring a state-of-the-art rescue center and low-cost spay and neuter clinic that is open to the public.

According to Chamber President/CEO Frank Hale, “Judy Sarullo gave up a comfortable lifestyle and paying job long ago in commitment to making sure local pets were properly cared and provided for.” He noted that police forces, stretching far beyond the state of Florida, contact Sarullo for help when they find mistreated or abandoned pets.

The Chamber proudly presented its 2016 Humanitarian of the Year Award to Sarullo in gratitude of her nearly 25 years of continuous service to local cats and dogs in need.
