Moving into a new neighborhood can be a stressful and hectic experience. Whether you are moving across town, across the state or across the country, the following pages will provide you and your family tips on getting settled in your new hometown.

Driving in Florida

Auto and Boat Tags: New residents must register their vehicles and boats and obtain license tags within 10 days of establishing residency. If you have moved from another county you must notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of your new address within 30 days. You must bring your vehicle and proof of ownership (title), and auto insurance. Registration Locations:

Drivers Licenses


If you have a valid driver's license from another state you need only pass an eye exam and have two forms of identification to receive a license. The cost of a new license is $20. If you must take a driving and written test it is recommended that you make an appointment. Driver's licenses in North Seminole may be obtained at: 290 E. 3. City of Sanford Residents Only

Garbage Collection- The City of Sanford contracts with Florida Recycling Services, which charges $13.75 per month to remove garbage and yard waste from your curbside. Call them at (407) 831-1539 ext 331 for obtaining recycling bins and pickup times.

Water & Sewer- New homeowners must bring proof of identification to the City of Sanford Utility Dept., 300 N. Park Ave. A deposit of $75 is required for new residential hookups. Reclaimed water services are available in limited areas at a rate of $.25 per 1,000 gal./month. They can be reached at (407) 688-5105.

Occupational Licenses- All businesses, including home based ventures, must purchase an occupational license. (407) 688-5150.

Voter Registration: In order to vote in an upcoming election you must show proof of citizenship at least 30 days prior to the election. The Supervisor of Elections is located at 1500 East Airport Blvd. (407) 708-7700.

Hunting and Fishing Licenses: Non-residents must have a saltwater fishing license when fishing from boat or land, but residents do not need one unless they are fishing from a boat or are under the age of 16 and over the age of 65. A freshwater license is required of residents and non-residents alike. Licenses can be obtained from any county tax collector's office or various bait and tackle outlets.
