SANFORD, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2020) – For the third year in a row, Seminole State College of Florida has earned a Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) award for 2021. Many people have had changes to their commutes as the pandemic has shifted more people to remote work. However, this award recognizes Seminole State’s efforts as an institution to limit the number of cars on the road and promote alternative means of travel that result in positive outcomes for their employees and our environment.
“The companies on this list recognize and embrace the beneficial outcomes commuter benefits have on their employees and the positive impact to the environment,” said Julie Bond, program manager at Best Workplaces for Commuters. “Excellent commuter benefit programs reward these companies not just with a national designation, but buoys workplace productivity, customer loyalty, and brand recognition in an increasingly competitive marketplace.”
The College earned this award by being among a select group of workplaces in the United States that have achieved the Best Workplaces for Commuters National Standard of Excellence. The standard of excellence requires access to Emergency Ride Home programs to encourage employee safety and other commuter benefits including:
- Telecommuting for applicable positions
- A comprehensive wellness program that encourages walking and health
- Free LYNX bus access (also available to students)
- Compressed work weeks during the summer
“Seminole State is committed to our employees’ health and well-being,” said Mae Ashby, associate vice president of Human Resources at Seminole State. “These programs, including the ability to telework and our wellness program Rally for Health, have proven essential this past year. We appreciate this recognition and will continue to strive to improve the lives of our employees and those in the community.”
The National Standard of Excellence from which the award draws its criteria was created by the National Center for Transit Research and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The program promotes non-driving commuting of employees and offers a range of support services, information and training to designated organizations.
